Open Coffee Break with the FISC Working Group

Come and connect with the FISC Working Group currently meeting in Prague

The group "Global patterns of growth of native and non-native trees" brings together international researchers exploring why many tree species grow faster in their non-native ranges  - and what this can tell us about biological invasions, plantation forestry and the management of non-native trees.
This informal coffee break is a chance to talk with the scientists, make new international contactsdiscuss shared research interests, and learn more about how synthesis centres and Working Groups operate.

When: Thursday at 10:00
Where: FLD CZU, room L187

Who you can meet:

  • Martín A. Núñez – Department of Biology and Biochemistry, Division of Ecology & Evolution, University of Houston, USA
Research focus: Biological invasions and plant–fungal interactions.
  • Yohana Gisell Jimenez – Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL, Switzerland
Research focus: Functional forest ecology and socio-ecosystem science.
  • Romina Fernandez – Instituto de Ecología Regional, CONICET–UNT, Horco Molle, Argentina
Research focus: Ecology and non-native plant invasions, including how forest use and agroecosystem management influence soil biodiversity and nutrient cycles.
  • Adrián Lázaro Lobo – Biodiversity Research Institute IMIB, Spain
Research focus: Mechanisms influencing the distribution and abundance of introduced plant species, including species interactions, abiotic factors and landscape characteristics; regeneration niches of introduced and native species; and impacts of invasive species on biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and ecosystem services.
  • Lujza Kubáčková – Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovakia
Research focus: Non-native naturalized and invasive woody plants, native expansive woody plants, and their impacts on vegetation and soil.
  • Andrew M. Liebhold – FLD / FISC
Research focus: Forest entomology and biological invasions across forest ecosystems worldwide.
  • Aditya Ganesh – FLD / FISC
Research focus: Ecological research on biological invasions, with an emphasis on interactions between Douglas-fir and associated insect herbivores.
  • Shuya Fan – FLD / FISC
Research focus: Plant invasion ecology, biogeography and macroecology, with a focus on the naturalization of alien plant species and ecological mechanisms shaping biodiversity patterns across regions.
