Rain Did Not Stop Us. FISC Joined BioBlitz 2026

Despite rainy weather, the FISC BioBlitz walk brought together participants for careful mapping of invasive species around ČZU. During the walk, we recorded 6 of the 16 mapped species

As part of this year’s BioBlitz mapping weekend, FISC joined the initiative with a guided BioBlitz walk around the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

Led by FISC scientists Kateřina Berchová and Andrew “Sandy” Liebhold, the walk focused on invasive plants and insects, their ecology, and their impacts on nature and society. Participants used the iNaturalist app to record observations directly in the field.

Despite rainy weather, the group carefully mapped invasive species along the route. In total, we observed 6 of the 16 mapped species. Along the way, we also came across invasive insects on black locust, including Obolodiplosis robiniae and discussed broader questions related to biological invasions and their consequences.

This year’s BioBlitz recorded 868 observations from 25 species, with 161 people taking part.

The walk ended, as every good field excursion should, with a friendly gathering at the pub.
